The Top 100 Sports Books of All Time by Sports Illustrated
・アメリカの著名なスポーツ雑誌：スポーツ・イラストレイテッド誌のスタッフたちが選定、2002年公表した歴代のスポーツに関す る書籍ベスト100の ランキングリストです。最高のスポーツ本の1位は「The Sweet Science」ですが、残念ながら翻訳本は見当たりません。

・20世紀最後の4割打者：テッド・ウィリアムズ氏の打撃論の本や ジョン・クラカワー氏のエベレスト最大の惨事についての本などが入ってますね。ベスト○○には入らないだろけど、NBAで3度3連覇した監督フィル・ジャ クソン氏の「シ カゴ・ブルズ：勝利への意識革命」や、重度の睾丸癌から生還しツール・ド・フランスで*7年連続総合優勝したランス・アームストロング氏の「た だマイヨ・ジョーヌのためでなく」も貴重な本ですよ。(*2012年にドーピング違反判明によりアー ムストロング氏の7連覇タイトルは剥奪されてます)
・ アフリカ系の人種で初めてウィンブルドンテニスの優勝者となったA・アッシュ氏の「静かな闘い」は当時のテニス界、人種、エイズの問題や宗教感などを自己 の経験と哲学をもとに率直に書かれて,興味深い作品ですね。競馬界、その従業者たち、競走馬の歴史的背景などを軽やかで率直に語られているB・バリック氏 の「競馬場の錬金術」もありますね。さらに、成人になる前に選手としての絶頂期を終えるスポーツ：女子体操や女子フィギアスケートのトップ選手たちやそれ ら業界の実状を書いたJ・ライアン氏の「魂まで奪われた少女たち」や、ピューリッツア賞受賞作家Ｄ・ハルバースタム氏の「勝負の分かれ目」も、大いに読む 価値のある作品ですね。
